NAU88L21CYG Stereo Audio Codec with Low Group Delay Capabilities for Real-Time Wireless Transmission & ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) Applications

Hsinchu, Taiwan – February 6, 2025 – Nuvoton is pleased to announce the new low latency audio codec platform to accelerate the development of wireless stream processing and analytics products. The solution is enabled by Nuvoton’s on-chip silicon signal processing design, including the Low Latency (LL) decimator (for down-sampling)/ interpolation (for up-sampling) digital linear and non-linear filters, these low pass filters are valuable additions to the ANC (active noise cancellation) and wireless real-time stream application. 
The NAU88L21CYG is an ultra-low power high-performance audio codec that supports both analog and digital audio functions. It includes one I²S/ PCM interface, one set of digital microphone interfaces, one digital mixer, two high-quality DACs and ADCs, and one stereo class-G headphone amplifier. The advanced on-chip signal processing engine includes dynamic range compressor (DRC), programmable bi-quad filter, as well as an integrated frequency-locked loop (FLL) to support various input clocks.

Conventional codecs without low pass filters will cause delay/ high latency during audio data transmission on critical events, especially in the real-time stream processing applications. It will cause a mismatch between audio and video streaming, bringing an unfriendly user experience. Nuvoton’s new codec design reduces its latency time by one-six compared to the conventional Audio Codec. It is the perfect match for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth wireless device that requires low group latency for the best delivery of audio user experience.

2. Provides Low Latency decimator (for down sampling)/ interpolation (for up sampling) digital linear and non-linear filter.
3. Group delay of ADC/ DAC digital filters can reduce one-six latency time compared to the conventional Audio Codec without these filters.
