M2A23 Series Overview
The NuMicro® M2A23 series is a 32-bit microcontroller based on the Arm® Cortex®-M23 core, designed for automotive and industrial control applications. It is AEC-Q100 Grade 1 certified, supporting ambient temperatures up to 125°C and operating voltages from 2.5V to 5.5V. The MCU integrates three CAN FD interfaces, one LIN interface, and two LLSI channels, along with 12-channel 144 MHz PWM outputs, making it ideal for various in-vehicle and exterior lighting control applications.
The M2A23 series operates up to 72 MHz and features 256 KB Flash, 24 KB SRAM, 4 KB LDROM, and 2 KB SPROM (for secure data/code storage that remains intact during Whole Chip Erase). It includes 12-bit ADC with a sampling rate of up to 2 Msps across 16 channels, two comparators, and a built-in temperature sensor, ensuring reliable data acquisition.
The MCU also supports multiple communication interfaces, including:
- Two UARTs supporting One-Wire, IrDA, and RS485
- One I²C interface
- One SPI interface
- Two USCI modules configurable as UART, I²C, or SPI

• Precise Control
The 12-channel 144 MHz PWM outputs enable precise brightness control for automotive lighting systems, adapting to various driving conditions.
For example, brightness can be reduced in urban environments to avoid glare, or increased on highways for better visibility.
The high-resolution PWM also enables smooth lighting transitions—such as gradual fade-in and fade-out effects when the vehicle starts or shuts down—enhancing user experience.
• Reliable Communication
With three CAN FD interfaces and multiple communication options (LIN, UART, I²C, SPI), the M2A23 ensures fast and stable data exchange within the vehicle network.
It can communicate with the ECU to automatically adjust beam angle and brightness based on vehicle speed or steering angle, or interface with intelligent sensors for adaptive lighting—such as automatic headlight activation based on ambient light or weather conditions.
• Data Acquisition and Processing
Equipped with a 16-channel 12-bit ADC, two comparators, and a temperature sensor, the M2A23 can collect real-time data such as lamp temperature and current.
Through data analysis, it can detect lighting faults (e.g., bulb failure, short circuit) and trigger alerts to improve vehicle safety.
• High Reliability
The M2A23 operates reliably at temperatures up to 125°C, suitable for high-temperature environments such as engine compartments.
Built-in hardware protection features—including over-voltage, under-voltage, and short-circuit protection—prevent damage caused by electrical faults and extend the system’s lifetime.

LLSI Interface
The LED Light Strip Interface (LLSI) is Nuvoton’s patented technology designed for controlling ARGB Gen 1 and next-generation ARGB Gen 2 LED light strips. Compared with traditional SPI-based control, the LLSI requires only one-quarter of the SRAM resources, allowing developers to utilize system resources more efficiently and simplify software development.
